Rendezvous 2007

The Pacific Northwest VEGAtarian contingent held their 2007 Rendezvous June 29th, 30th and July 1st at the Lopez Islander Marina and Resort at Fisherman's Bay, Lopez Island, Washington. Laura and I missed it, being at sea about a thousand miles west at the time but here is a report from Sheila and some photos provided by Peter and Ulla Jacobs:

HI Chuck,
As always the rendezvous was lots of good fun. We gathered at Fisherman's Bay on Friday night, and it promptly began to pour rain. Needing no further incentive we retired to the bar for dinner and drinks all around. The weather cleared on Saturday and it was beautiful for the rest of the weekend. Saturday night's potluck, in true Vegatarian style was lots of fabulous food, good laughs and libation.

Attendees were:

Mitzie & Bear, who didn't bring City Zoo this year Jim and Gloria with Wren Brian and Diana with Putachiside (sp??) Ken and Judy with Aqavite us, Sheila and Howard with Shiva Peter and Ulla with Sin Tacha

Linda and Terry came a second time with their trawler, and Terry once again entertained us by strolling with his accordian.

A very nice couple from Montana came and camped on the hill. I think his name was Don and her's Lisa, but I don't have any other information on them...can someone fill in the blanks? They have a Vega back in Montana that they are fix up with the idea of cruising in Mexico.

Saturday night just as we were preparing to eat, we saw a Vega sail in and got all excited, thinking it was Laura and Chuck.

It turned out to be Austin McHugh, his wife and two great kids. They are living on their Vega in Bellingham while house hunting. The name of their boat????

Saturday included TINKER -ing about, a walk to the Lopez Farmer's Market, coffee & baked goods from Holly B's, and assorted faffing about.

We left Fisherman's Bay on a falling tide. We followed Brian and Diana out, and scraped bottom a couple times in the channel, but Brian and Diana decided to stay in the channel a while...at least until the tide turned and freed them off.

I'm sure there's more. Perhaps others will fill in the blanks.

Rendezvous 2006

The 2006 Pacific Northwest VEGAtarian Rendezvous was held September 1, 2 and 3 at Port Browning Marina located on North Pender Island, BC

Port Browning has proven to be a good venue for the Rendezvous in the past and 2006 was no exception. The sketches on this page (Not to be used for navigation) will give you an idea of where Port Browning is located. Here's a report from member Peter Jacobs:

Vegas in attendence were: City Zoo (Friday Harbor) Bear and Mitzi, Shiva (Orcas Island) Sheila and Howard, Sin Tacha (Victoria BC) Peter and Ulla Jacobs also, Putachieside, Alberg 30 (White Rock BC) Brian and Diana (former Vega owners), Always a Lady, Catalina 25 (Orcas Island) Chris and Lyne. Walt Brown and Judy Allore were also there, from Crescent City CA. They drove up and camped out. Jim and Gloria (Vega owners) also drove up from Oregon and camped. The accordian player was Terry (partner Linda .... I think, and dog Mulligan), from a big ketch, picture attached below. Walt Brown brought up a Navik Vane which I bought from him and we installed it on Sin Tacha at the Port Browning dock. I didn't get a chance to use it until returning home last week from the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival. It works like a charm, although I still have a lot to learn about fine tuning it for various points of sail. Credit goes to my wife, Ulla, for remembering everyone's name! Cheers! Peter.
